Moulding and welding within the mould
In collaboration with Hummel-Formen and KVT Bielefeld, Engel sets the path for a new kind of process integration. The joinmelt process supports hot gas welding directly in the mold. Besides cost savings, the new process is also said to improve parts quality and functional safety.

Virtual Process Design in Expansion Injection Molding
Expansion injection molding facilitates the production of very thin-walled parts by the explosive relaxation of compressed melt. A research group has now developed a software that simulates the process based on a physical model. The program’s practical capability is demonstrated by a comparison between the virtual and actual process in the production of check cards.

Cleanliness Counts
Particle load and heat emissions are the creteria that are always quoted when decisions about machine operating principle are to be made. A comparison of hydraulic, electrical and hybrid injection moulding machines gives an indication of which principle has the lowest emissions and is therefore best suited for cleanroom production.

Resistant Screws
Modern injection moulders add increasing amounts of mineral additives and glass fibres to their plastics moulding compounds to modify the material properties. These mixtures make severe demands on the resistance of the plastifying components. A new screw system significantly improves the wear protection.

Focus on Precision
With above-average growth rates, optical technologies can be considered as setting the pace for the 21st century. However, the challenges when injection moulding optical parts frequently differ from those encountered when injection moulding conventional parts. In the face of international competition, the focus is shifting increasingly to innovative processing techniques.

The right machine for GMP
Medical technology is one of the most sensitive applications in machinery and plant construction since medical products do not allow any compromises in production safety, traceabilityof the qualification processes or product liability. This means details really count when developing an injection moulding machine for cleanroom manufacturing.
